Bamboo Japanese Chopsticks
Chopsticks have their origins in China. According to legend, it is said that when ancient people ate hot roasted food, they often used two twigs from a tree or bamboo to help them eat the porridge. In this simple way, people not only enjoyed their meal comfortably but also avoided burns from hot food. Later, these twigs evolved into chopsticks, which made their way to Japan and beyond.
Usage: Japanese chopsticks are shorter than Chinese chopsticks, but the method of use is the same. The chopsticks are formed into a kind of tongs with which food is placed into the mouth. The lower chopstick is stationary, and food is pressed against it with the upper movable chopstick. The lower chopstick should be placed in the groove between the thumb and index finger, resting against the base of the thumb joint, and firmly pressed to the joint with the ring finger.
