What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files created by a web server and stored on your computer via your browser. When you return to the same website, the browser sends the stored file back to the server, allowing it to retrieve any information it previously saved.

How and Why Cookies Are Used

Cookies are essential for functional web analytics. Analytics systems use cookies to store a visitor’s identifier, traffic source, time of visit, etc. These data are updated on subsequent pages, allowing the system to “follow” the user.
Cookies also store the fact that a user is logged in (e.g., to the website’s admin area, e-shop, social networks). This type is called an authentication cookie. Without it, the server could not recognise that the user has already been verified and would prompt for login on every page.

Types of Cookies

First-Party Cookie – set by a script running on the same domain. These cookies are generally considered more secure and are less likely to be blocked by firewalls or strict browser settings. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies by default.
Third-Party Cookie – set by a script loaded from a different domain. The same cookie can appear on multiple sites, enabling cross-domain tracking.

Why the Name “Cookie”?

The term “cookie” comes from the English word for a small biscuit, reflecting the practice of offering visitors a “treat” to create a welcoming atmosphere.

Which Cookies We Use

Based on duration, cookies are:
Session (temporary) cookies, which are stored only until you close your browser, and Persistent cookies, which remain until you delete them.

Remarketing cookies for personalising ads;
